First of all, grease or anti-seize under the head and threads of the bolts and nuts. For square tapered spindle, leave spindle clean of grease. Grease or anti-seize the splines of spline type spindles. Then you rotate pipe billet spindle so one spline aligns to the top dead center, at the 12:00 position.
Secondly, position right crank arm on to the spindle so the arm points straight down at the 6:00 position. Install the right crank, onto the right side of spindle. Thread in the bolt to the spindle. Self-extracting models align tooth and groove of spindle and crank when installing.
Thirdly, tighten bolt fully to manufacturer’s specifications.
The bolt may need 34 Nm to 50 Nm (300 to 450 inch-pounds) depending upon brand. Whenever possible, use a torque wrench for this installation.
Align the arms
Next, you align left arm so it points directly opposite the right arm. Self-extracting models align tooth and groove of spindle and crank when installing. Thread the bolt into the spindle and tighten the bolt fully.
Finally, you grease threads of dust cap (if any), and install snugly then you repeat the process on other side.
